The moment that decides everything
Most purchase decisions are made in a few seconds, standing in front of a crowded shelf. In that moment, your packaging has to do a lot of work: catch the eye, communicate what the product is, and give the shopper a reason to pick it up instead of the one next to it.
That is exactly the moment our 3D shelf platform is built to recreate. Instead of asking consumers what they think they would do, we place them in front of realistic, interactive virtual shelves and watch what they actually do. Where do they look first? What do they pick up? What do they walk past? The result is behavioral data that reflects real shopping, not survey guesswork.
Hundreds of brands, tested before launch
We’re proud to share that our 3D shelf testing has now helped hundreds of brands test and prove their packaging before it ever reaches a real store.
For these brands, testing early means fewer expensive surprises later. Rather than committing to a print run and hoping for the best, teams can compare design routes side by side, in a realistic competitive context, with real consumers. Our clients use the platform to:
- Measure standout: see whether a new design gets noticed on a busy shelf, and how quickly.
- Compare design options: put several packaging routes in front of shoppers and let behavior pick the winner.
- Test against competitors: understand how a pack performs next to the brands it actually competes with.
- De-risk redesigns: make sure a refresh attracts new shoppers without losing loyal ones who can no longer find their usual product.
- Build confidence internally: give marketing, design and retail teams hard evidence to back their decisions.
Because everything happens virtually, changes that would take weeks in a physical test can be made in days. New SKUs, shelf layouts and price points can all be swapped in and tested quickly.
New: video POS testing at shelf
The shelf itself is changing. Digital screens, animated displays and video point-of-sale units are becoming a common sight in stores, and brands are investing heavily in them. But until now, it has been hard to know whether that content really works where it matters most: at the shelf, competing for attention in real time.
That’s why we’re adding video POS testing to our 3D shelf platform. Clients can now place their digital screen content directly into the virtual store environment and test it with consumers at-shelf. This lets brands answer questions such as:
- Does the screen draw shoppers toward the product, or pull attention away from it?
- Which version of the video content drives more engagement and product pick-ups?
- How long does content need to be to land its message before shoppers move on?
- How does video POS perform alongside packaging and traditional shelf materials?
Video POS testing brings the same behavioral rigor we apply to packaging to in-store digital media, so brands can invest in screen content with confidence.
What’s next
Video POS testing is just one part of a broader push to make our virtual shelves as close to the real retail experience as possible. We’ll keep expanding what can be tested in-store, so that every element a shopper sees, from the pack to the screen above it, can be validated before launch.
